Detach Self from Ideas

Authors: Michael Plöd, Beija Nigl, Kenny Schwegler, Andrea Magnorsky, Andrew Harmel-Law

Submitter: Beija Nigl

How can one foster objective discussion and collaboration without personalizing design or change initiatives?

Avoid emotional attachment to specific ideas or initiatives by framing them as collective contributions rather than personal ownership. This detachment facilitates open discussion, reduces defensive reactions, and promotes a focus on the best outcome.

Examples

Presenting a proposed architectural change as 'an idea for improving scalability' rather than 'my solution to the scaling problem,' to encourage broader input.
